P&S is the region’s first to offer MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing, total knee replacement, and total hip replacement procedures. MAKO is a surgeon-controlled robotic arm system that enables accurate alignment and placement of implants. This precise and minimally invasive approach means patients will potentially experience less pain, quicker recovery, and a more natural fitting knee and hip. P&S is the region’s first to purchase the ORA surgical robot. This machinery provides real-time measurements of the eye during cataract surgery and guides the surgeon to determine the most accurate lens power. The system works by directing a beam of low-intensity laser light into the eye. The laser light reflects off of the patient’s retina, while sensors in the instrument analyze the reflected wave of light exiting the eye. This real-time analysis measures the eye’s unique optical characteristics, and gives the surgeon an accurate measurement of the eye’s focusing capabilities. To learn more, visit: ORA

Patients at P&S Surgical Hospital will now benefit from the da Vinci Surgical System, a tool with robotic, computer and optical technologies that allow the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. The da Vinci instruments have mechanical wrists that bend and rotate to mimic the movements of the human wrist – allowing the surgeon to make small, precise movements inside the patient’s body.
